Attached here are the results of Canoe -Kayak  at  1st Youth Africa Games held in Morocco 13-18 July 2010.

1st African Youth Games - Rabat Morocco- 13-18 July 2010

The 1st African Youth Games in Rabat (Morocco) was a continental addition of the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore 2010 financially supported by ANOCA and organized by the Morocco NOC and Ministry of Sport.

The canoeing competitions were in accordance with the competition format of the Youth Olympics. It was obligatory for all participating athletes taking part in both canoeing events namely in the Head to Head Canoe Sprint and Obstacle Canoe Slalom races.

The Games was high level of success for Canoeing! Canoeing registered a record participation with 9 Countries out of the maximum allowed Quota by ANOCA of 10 countries. Some NFs who were invited did not receive support for the participation by their NOC. 16 Athletes from Angola, Algeria, Egypt, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Sao Tome, Morocco, Tunisia and Togo participated in the 1st Youth Africa Games.

Due to very good support from Moroccan Canoeing Federation and spirit of Sport and Friendships from all teams, the Canoeing races concluded without any incident. The cooperation with the rowing events at the same venue but different course also was satisfaction.

The venue of the Games was Dait Roumi Lake  near the town of Khemisset approx 80 km from Rabat  the Capital City. The accommodation & meals, service and the general environment were excellent!

Confederation of African Canoeing (CAC) with support from International Canoe Federation (ICF) was charged with the overall technical preparations and appointing the technical Officials.

Technical Officials appointed mainly from Africa as Kenya, Cote D'Ivoire , Cameroon and Morocco.

HEAD TO HEAD Sprint Canoe and OBSTACLE Sprint Slalom obtained good reception from the organizers and all participants. The team leaders hailed this new format of canoeing racing as an innovation and exciting for spectators and athletes. Some of the teams decided to organize similar racing format in their own country.

Canoeing events in the African Youth Games was useful for testing the Canoe Kayak Racing course for Youth Olympic Games. Several close races were witnessed between the athletes, while most if not all paddlers were very highly appreciative and enjoyed the special formats.

During the Games Confederation of African Canoeing (CAC) announced the start of celebrations for 1 year to mark the   10 years Anniversary  of  CAC which  was formed in Morocco in 2000 and the celebration started with 10 yrs Cake cutting by  all Medal winning paddlers .

The results:
Tunisia was overall winner with 3 golds and 1 bronze , followed  by Sao Tome and Principe with 1 Gold and 1 Silver  and Morocco with 2 Silver and 2 Bronze . Egypt received 1 silver and Guinea Bissau- 1 Bronze.

At the close of the official period   of 1st Youth Olympic Games in Singapore either through qualification  and granting of unused IOC universality quotas, it emerged that  a record  8 African  NOC have accepted  invitations   and are expected to send Paddlers to  the 1st Youth Olympic Games in Singapore   as follows ; Angola, Cameroon, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Morocco , Sao Tome and Principe , South Africa and Tunisia "

The next event for Africa will be African Youth Canoe Sprint Championships in Tunisia from 29/30 September 2010.
